So, you have decided to give yoga a try, but you want to start off with something easy. Yoga is great for your strength, flexibility, and mind-body awareness. It also improves your posture and increases your blood flow.
There are over 300 yoga positions that you can do, but we are going to show you 3 poses that are easy enough for a beginner to practice.
By practicing the plank regularly, you will strengthen your abdominals and your entire body. In this position, you stand on your toes and elbows. Engage your lower abdominals and draw the shoulders down. Breathe deeply for 8 to 10 breaths.
2. Downward Facing Dog
This is a really good pose and it is used in most yoga practices. It stretches and strengthens the entire body. Stand on all four with your knees under your hips and your wrists under your shoulders. Lift your hips and draw them up and back towards your heels. Try and straighten out your legs while keeping your hips back and walk your hands forwards if you need to give yourself more length. Rotate your inner elbows towards each other and press through your palms. Hold this position for 5 to 8 breaths.
3. Mountain Pose
This pose is the base for all standing poses. Stand straight, spread your toes and open up your chest whilst your shoulder blades are coming towards each other. Let your arms hang loose at your sides. Hold this position for 5 to 8 breaths.
